WESTERN TRIP TO STEAMBOAT

Colorado is one of our favorite areas to ski. Especially since Lowell crashed on Rolex the last time we were there. Yes he did make it through Rolex this you without any mishaps. However, I think we all had our fair share of falls. Snow conditions were descent for the most part but they certainly could have used more snow, icy in many spots. However, we did get 4” or so of snow the evening we arrived so on Sunday for the powder lovers it was a great day on the mountain. One of the highlights of our trip, other than living with Ma “Lois”, Lowell, Stephanie, Pete, and Brian for a week, was going to Strawberry Park Hot Springs. It was fabulous. The scenery was snowy, dark and hot. What better way to spend the evening among the stars. Four of us from the condo went and enjoyed every bit of it. Sorry others from ESC didn’t make it, they missed out big time. Sure made the body feel good, except for all the cuts Stephanie had on her knees from the rocks. Gosh what was she doing! Didn’t get to snowmobile this year because Lowell and I will be going north within the next two weeks for that. I know the Myers and Hall group enjoyed their day on Sunday with all the fresh powder to glide through. The rest of the week was sunny and very warm at times. We had a great time. Thanks to Rod and the rest of the Elmer’s for making this trip a success. We both look forward to next year wherever that may take us.

ELMHURST SKI CLUB - FIFTY YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG

The 2006-2007 ski season marks the fiftieth anniversary of  the Elmhurst Ski Club (ESC) located in a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois.  ESC is a member club of the Chicago Metropolitan Ski Council (CMSC).

Elmhurst Ski Club was started in 1957 by a small group of people who had met in high school. They all had one thing in common ---- they enjoyed skiing. From that small group ESC has evolved over the years. Membership was only open to those 21 years or older and it was predominantly a singles group. Now the Club enjoys a very wide variety of people. Regular event attendees range from age 9 to age 78 with a mix of single and married.

Our primary activity is skiing including one-day and week long ski trips. We also participate in NASTAR racing and CMSC week long trips and Alpine racing trips. Our destinations have varied from Canada, the western US and Europe. We have a cross-country ski trip in the immediate area when the weather cooperates.

During the summer we enjoy a variety of events including golf, picnics, bike rides, chili cook-offs, and any other event a member wants to organize.

Some of our members have moved out of the area but enjoy being with the Elmhurst group so much they join us each year on ski trips. They come from as far away as Arizona, Wisconsin, Washington State, and Florida.

Our club is large enough to have active participation at events but small enough to get to know everyone in the club and give every member that feeling of “community”.

Attend one of our meetings. Come ski and/or join us for other activities. Bring your ideas. You, your ideas, your family and friends are always welcome in our fun-loving, super group of people.
