VAIL ACCORDING TO BOBBIE
AND LOWELL
Thank you all
for such a wonderful Vail trip in 2006!!!!!
The trip
would not have been complete without Lowell and Stu - (all in the same condo)
Did Lowell meet his match. You will have to come back next year for the
finally!!!! Regardless everyone had a
great time but no one could keep up with Stu -the man is unstoppable !!!!!
The condo's
were beautiful and very spacious for our group. We would have liked them to be
closer, but heck at least we could catch a bus and save a few feet of walking.
Our boots were getting roughed up walking on all that gravel around the
construction. Other than the Chinese torture Lowell and I had to listen to
every night - things were great.
The skiing is
great for all levels of Elmers. Which is always appreciated. Vail is very
expensive but a wonderful ski area including
Beaver Creek.
I want to
thank all of the Elmers that celebrated mine, Mary and Kim's birthday during
that week. Both restaurants were great - especially the Mexican. We are always
ready for food and drinks!
Thank you Rod
for his first trip as our Leader. The
next one will be easier.
Bobbie and
Lowell
Hopefully we
will get Steamboat next year!!
On March 25th
Elmhurst Ski Club will be represented on the Chicago Week Aspen trip! We have a
total of 8 people attending. The trip is from March 25th thru April
1st. The Elmers who are attending were very lucky. Elmhurst was able
to get air into Eagle Airport, which is about an hour from Aspen, verses flying
into Denver, which is over a 4 hour bus ride to Aspen!!! Unfortunately when
flying into Eagle you miss stopping at Apple Jack’s! But I think the reason for
stopping at Apple Jack’s is the 4 hour bus ride!
The trip leaders this year
for CMSC are Lynn Newton (chair) and Mary Kreinberg (assistant) and Scott
Schmidt will be running the races (I owe Scott big time!). The last time I
checked there were over 450 people signed up to go. There will be the usually
fun stuff throughout the week, like 2 races, a mountain picnic, pub crawl, and
a welcome and farewell party. Also this year Teri and Mark Kinney are chairing
the fundraiser for Challenge Aspen, http://www.challengeaspen.com. As
in the past they have always come up with fun and interesting ways to raise
money (like the time I got to race Billy Kidd! Thanks to Kathy Olsen!). I’m
sure it will be fun.
This year is the year for
Elmers to stay in condo’s! This trip the Elmers are staying in 2 bed 2 bath
condo’s at the Gant. Which I’m told is a great property. Chicago Week has used
this property in the past and like it’s location and service.
The lift ticket’s included in
this package are for all 4 Aspen area’s: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands,
Buttermilk, and Snowmass! You have your choice to ski them all! Once there, the
problem will be which one? And when? You’ll know more when you pick-up your
packet and read your itinerary. You have 2 choices this year on when to pick-up
your packets, either at the CMSC general meeting on March 14th or at
the Viking Chicago Week Night on March 15th. Viking Ski Shop is
again hosting the Chicago Week Night for anyone who wishes to attend. On
Wednesday night the ski shop is normally closed but they will have the shop
open specially for us. They put on a spread of food, wine and beer, along with
giving a discounts throughout the shop. If you bring your skis in the week
before they will have them ready for the night of the party. Can’t go wrong here!
So, for those of you going, I’m jealous and for those who
didn’t sign-up, I hope this article makes you wish you did!
Chicago Week is always a great trip! I’ve heard a lot of Elmers say “lets go skiing later in the season, in March”. CMSC Chicago Week is the answer. CMSC takes all the risks, Elmhurst can book as little or as many seats as we want. You may think it’s more expensive than just an Elmhurst trip, but it includes much more than an Elmhurst trip. You’re just paying up front for it! As a CMSC club, Elmhurst has a vote in where Chicago Week will be. Elmhurst earns this vote by attending Chicago Week. So my thanks to those who signed up with Elmhurst this year. Next years Chicago Week 2007 will be at Sun Valley, Idaho on March 24th thru March 31st, 2007.
