                                                               CHILI PARTY

All had fun at the chili party at the Wirth’s on October 15. We had the pleasure to sample and taste seven chili recipes. It was very difficult to determine which chili was the best. They were all very good. But Betty upset Walt, last years chili champ, with the best chili this year. She put the secret ingredient in her chili which stops the craving for all sweet teeth. Now we all know the secret. Lots of brown sugar!!! Congratulations to Betty. Nice job. Rod and Joy were voted the second best chili. Of course Jackie had the best brownies. Thanks again to all who brought something for the party.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE WIRTH’S

Sure feels like the season of Christmas here in Chicago. We now have about 7” of snow, and many people have decorated their houses. We have many lights on about every bush and gutter that is available on our house. We do all this for the child Jesus who is the light of the world who came to save us. Let us not forget to celebrate the birth of Jesus with your family and your community.

We had a beautiful child who was born that has brought us so much joy this year. Brianna has been growing up so fast. She is into everything, and really keeps you on your toes. She will be walking very shortly. Then we will be running.

We take care of her while Chris and Kelly are at work. It is a joy to watch her grow, and it is a blessing that I have the time to take care of her.

Besides having our first granddaughter, our Kelly got married to Chris Webb this past year. Donna worked very hard and long preparing the wedding. It was a joyful occasion, and being the father of the bride was a very emotional experience. I never saw Kelly so beautiful in her wedding dress except the day when I was holding her in my arm bare naked in the delivery room. They are living in Romeoville which is only 20 minutes away. Kelly is still working for US Cellular, and Chris is working as a carpenter.

Donna has been so busy this past year. She was trustee of the trust for her step dad who died last Oct-2004. We had to remodel his house to get it ready to sell. We did all kinds of work to the house. We painted it inside and out, new floors, new closets, new garage door, sodding the garden, etc. After working on the house for almost 8 months we finally sold it. Thank God that we got over that hurdle. Handling all the paper work of the trust is a big task. It is almost completed with a few more details. Then in March we finally visited Oregon the last state of the US that we hadn’t visited. We stayed in Klamath Falls-southern Oregon. We saw Crater Lake, Redwoods National Park, Mt. Shasta, Lava Beds National Park, and many other things. The redwood trees are just magnificent. I’m amazed by their sizes. We drove our car through one of them. We had a great time getting away from home.

Mark is still running the landscape business. I try to stay out of the way, but I still help him with the paper work. It was a terrible dry summer, but he had a good fall season. It is very hard to keep good workers. We lost one of our best workers who was with us over 10 years.

Life really begins when you retire. Staying active and hopefully doing what you like to do. Working a little and playing a little. I’m still skiing as long as my knees hold up. We skied in Utah at Park City last winter. Our ski club will be in Vail in January. Did some fishing in Canada with my high school buddies. Zed caught the biggest northern I’ve ever seen. The fish was 43” long and weighed 25lbs. According to my wife my next bad habit is my hunting. We made our annual shotgun deer weekend to Olney. All of us together got seven deer. The buck that I shot had to be thrown away due to infection in its leg. Someone before me must have shot the deer hoof off because it was broken at the ankle. I did some volunteer work at church. I remodeled three bathrooms and redid some landscaping.  Most of all I’m a die hard White Sox fan, and Cardinal in the national league. We don’t have to say like the Cub’s fan,” Wait until next year.” We played Ozzie ball here in Chicago. Most of Chicago got caught up in the “GO Sox” We are celebrating the WORLD CHAMPS!!!!!!
