NASTAR
AT PARK CITY (FEB 2005)
The
sun was plentiful on this trip, a real treat! Of course, that also means that
we had very little new snow. I think all of the skiers would have enjoyed a
couple of inches of new fluff. However, the sunshine and warmth softened the
existing snow so skiing conditions remained good.
The
Elmhurst Ski Club (Elmers as they are affectionately known) came out in numbers
for the Park City Mountain Resort Nastar Race. Out of 33 total Elmers on the
trip, 25 participated in the Nastar Race on Thursday. Of the 25 racers, 15
earned either gold, silver, or bronze medals. The remaining 10 racers earned a
participation medal for their efforts and sportsmanship.
The top three racers in the
club placed as follows:
1. John Clegg
2. Bob Engel
3. Debbie
Clegg
The top three men placed as
follows:
1. John Clegg
(Gold)
2. Bob Engel
(Silver)
3. Craig
Swiontek (Bronze)
The top three women placed as
follows:
1. Debbie
Clegg (Silver)
2. Mary
Leonard (Silver)
3. Ida
Brutlag (Silver)
The courses were laid out
well and did not develop nasty ruts or ice, partially in thanks to the warmer
weather.
I am glad that so many of the
Elmers participated in the Nastar Race. We had a lot of fun and no one got hurt
during the races. The choice is yours as to what the race means to you. Some
people participated for the first time and just wanted to see what it was all about.
Other racers were very competitive, having participated in many CMSC races in
the past.
Thanks for the great turnout!
It creates good camaraderie among the club members.
Thanks again everyone.
Looking forward to seeing you at future races.
Thanks to Bobbie Davis for
being a terrific trip leader. What a great party we had to enjoy! The job of a
trip leader can be very demanding and decisions that have to be made are not
always easy. I appreciate your efforts. Thanks again.
Hope to see everybody on our
western trip next year.
Your Race Chairman,
Betty Ashworth
