Over at the Canyons
we explored the western half of the area. Conditions were between ice and
crud over there and we kept ending up in another one of those darned natural
halfpipes. But then we found the corn. One side of the ravine
(named Yard Sale, by the way) was beautiful corn, the other side was bare rock
and brush. I loved it and did it twice, but couldn't get Craig to follow
for the life of me. We hooked up with another Chicagoan who we hope will
join the club and then proceeded to ski more corn and brush - without Craig or
Pat. But that's ok - the next run was a bump bruiser where Craig
proceeded to look like the mogul pro he is. Dang - I wish I could do
that...
The hotel was pretty
nice - great staff, awesome hot pool, good food and bar. I'm wishing for
condos again, so we can have room parties, tho. Miss the Wallbanger and
Clean Out parties. Looking forward to next year already. Skiing at
home this year - well, it sucks... Sorry to say, so I am
jazzed already for some more good times to come with my buddies in the Elmhurst
Ski Club.
Peace everyone - See ya next year.

CMSC ALPINE RACING
This year as always, CMSC has run
their racing program. 14 races, 8 at Wilmot and 6 at other Midwest areas. CMSC
runs a
good
program. Everyone has a chance to win! Races usually take place on the weekends
starting early December running to the
last
weekend in February. One day they race Slalom and the other day is a Giant
Slalom. They currently have 20 different race
classes.
The classes are divided up by gender, age and ability. This year the starting
age for trophies was 12. But if your 12 and
under you can still race on the Giant Slalom
days. Cost for racers 12 and up is $17.00 on hill registration and $12.00
pre-registration for each race, however you
can purchase packages which include all the races, or the Wilmot race package.
The
cost for 12 and under is FREE! They use old leftover lycra bibs and receive
participation awards after each race.
The Clegg
motor home usually adorns the parking lots for these events. However this year,
due to scheduling conflicts (ski
trips and Carley had plans!), we made 6 out
of the 14 races. With the last Wilmot race weekend the Chili Party. At the end
of
the season’s races there is an “End of the
Year Party” held at a restaurant, were overall trophies are given out. So we’ll
have to
wait to see where we stand for this year!
So put it in your schedule for next
year! It really is a great group of people and it gets you out early in the
season and it gives
you
a reason to ski the Midwest!
Debbie
CMSC Alpine racing committee is
looking for volunteers to help run the program. Several key positions are open.
When you
volunteer-
your racing is FREE and depending on the job, you can receive your Lift tickets
FREE also!! Check out
skicmsc-race.com for job details.
A LETTER FROM WALT:
Dear ESC Members …
On February
19th nine “committed” ESC members gathered for a fun filled
afternoon at Moraine Hills State
Park. Although there wasn’t sufficient snow to
cross country ski, we hiked approximately 4 miles enjoyed the scenery,
exercise and
conversation with good friends on a sunny winter day.
Following the hike we returned to Ray & Susan
Lucas’ home for a continued good time over food and drink.
Thank you Ray and Susan for your hospitality, it was
much appreciated.
As I wind down my third term as your x-country leader,
I would like to thank everyone for your support of me
in this
position and your continued participation in our activities.
Sincerely,
Walt Zelenka
Your X-Country Leader
