From The Web
In
the distant future, I would like to create a directory on the Elmhurst Ski Club
website of club members for use by ESC members only (accessible by using ******
as the password). If you do not want
your e-mail address published, let me know. If you do not want your telephone
number published, let me know. If you do not want your address published, let
me know. If you do not want your name published, what are you trying to hide?
I
would like to thank Rick and Christy Burke, Debbie Clegg, and Bob Engle for
providing pictures of the Park City trip.
I
would also encourage people to patronize King Keyser Sports in Hinsdale. If you
speak to Bill and mention you saw the link on the website, he will give you a
discount on services (but not on equipment).

Utah (Trip Leaders Comments)
Our first
trip to Utah and it was fabulous! Most
everyday was sunny and warm. The Radisson Hotel accommodations were superb. We
were close to the town of Park City and within 1 - 3 miles of any mountain of
our three choices for skiing. The free breakfast was wonderful and enjoyed by
all everyday. Even the $.99 cents wings at the bar were wonderful and enjoyed
by many of us in the evening, well until they ran out, because they were so
good and such a deal. My favorite location was Park City Mountain Resort. The
area had great runs - nice and wide and pretty good snow. My second would be Deer Valley. Our first
visit was not the friendliest by far. We left the mountain tour within 10
minutes or so because - well we won't discuss that, HOWEVER once everything was
worked out about 20 of us or so went back on Friday to Deer Valley on them for
the entire day, Bo even got skis free. The Deer Valley resort treated all of us
like gold on Friday and we truly enjoyed our day there. Again, it was sunny and
beautiful. We even found two locations for bathroom facilities without having
to go down stairs. The tour was very enjoyable. Hey did you ever find your skis
Bo? I hope so otherwise rentals are expensive.
For the most part we had a few bruises and came back in one piece with
the exception of sore knees. Also, we had one injury with Gloria - so I sure
hope all is well with her. Looking forward to next year with Elmer's for
another wonderful week of fun in the snow. Thanks again to all of you for
making this trip a wonderful experience for everyone.

UTAH WITH
THE BURKE’S
Rather
then tell you about the whole trip which would take more paper and time then
you might have, I’ll just give you the a couple details about Monday, the day
we arrived. Rick and I decided to go to Park City and drove out at the
last minute as we want to do, never being good at advance
planning. We gained the slopes of Deer Valley by 10:30 AM and
cruised a couple runs. The slopes were incredible, groomed, groomed,
groomed and completely covered with snow. A very light snow was falling too! You
didn’t need a trail map, everything was ski-able! Keeping our eyes open
for any Elmers we quickly spotted some familiar looking ski clothes, then the
faces that went with them! We found the Elmers before lunchtime and the
ones we located took us to the appointed gathering spot for lunch where
everyone eventually did turn up, most stupefied to see us there. Never
count Rick out unless the event is over. During the afternoon we started
out skiing with one group and gradually lost most of them but never fear, other
Elmers appeared out of the woods to take their place. It was a constantly
changing mix and having never skied at Deer Valley before, I must say, it was a
truly beautiful places to ski. The care taken by the resort on their
slopes, the variety offered in their restaurants and the setting of their
buildings and shops made it first class. It's a place that would take
several days to see entirely. The only problem they may want to work on
was the courtesy of their mountain host but you can probably read about that in
Bobbie Davis’s report.
That night the
Elmers split up into small groups favoring a variety of restaurants in town.
Italian anyone? We went in a group of 8 to ClaimJumpers. We bussed
from the front door of the Radisson, since Park City has a fabulous free mass
transit system. ClaimJumpers is a old-time saloon that houses a top notch
red-meat eatery. (Some of our crowd did have fish but I don’t know why?)
As we were walked to our table we passed the meals ready to be served
and our eyes popped! Portion-size was going to be a problem for anyone
who did not arrive with an empty stomach. The rooms at the Radisson
didn’t have refrigerators for leftovers. We took pictures of the place
including one of the tables with about 10 wine bottles in front of our group.
Unfortunately, the wine bottles were really the menus and the wine was
long since gone. For entertainment we had Betty Ashworth! She and
her new friend, Lucas created a fabulous salad for us with a special dressing.
Overly long peppermills didn’t intimidate most of us either. Betty again
being the exception. Some people decided to split a meal but I had the
small prime rib (you know the one that could fill a dinner platter and was an
inch and a half thick!) Service was excellent too and in about an hour
some of us were rolling out the door back to the bus. Many in our group
took the after dinner walk up the hill in town and into and out of the stores
to work off a couple calories. A beautiful night for
that. The fiberglass mooses in town were greatly admired because they
were painted and decorated to the nines! Some wore lipstick. Those
of you that remember the cows in Chicago, should be able to relate to the
fanciful mooses or is it meese? Anyway we have great memories and
pictures of Monday, January 31, 2005 in Park City Utah.
