LETTER FROM THE NORDSTROM’S

Hi Elmers,

The other day, Carolyn and I went to Susan and Ray’s home.  Susan provided the place to meet, and Debbie Clegg called a number of ESCers.  We wanted to visit as many friends as we could while we were around Chicago.

Here’s a little update on our adventures.  You know Bob had to give up skiing due to that stupid smoking habit of his.  Then we had a fantastic offer on our home, which was too much work to properly care for.  We sold the home, traded in our truck and trailer for a 35 foot used Winnebago Motor Home.  We love it!

Some Elmers helped us sell, pack, and store our 50 years of stuff.  Thanks!  You know who you are.

In October we started out on an adventure that was supposed to go north to Maine, south to Florida, and end up with our kids in WA State, all the time looking for a new home location.  For 5 months we played

tourist – ate lobster in Maine, played golf along the way, mostly at Myrtle Beach, and stayed at beautiful campgrounds as long as we liked.  We saw historical places like Cape Cod, Plymouth Rock, Maritime Museums, lighthouses, battlefields – so much that I couldn’t write at all down now.  The Eastern part of the U.S.A. has so much beauty, with the ocean, mountains, and all of the history of the beginning of our great country.

We went as far south as Clewiston on Lake Okeechobee, then headed north to continue our trip west and north to WA. looking at different communities where we might like to settle.  The plan was to finish the trip – then decide where to settle in central Fl. south of Ocala and north of Orlando.

Carolyn and I found a place called “Del Webb’s Spruce Creek Country Club” – a great community with 36 holes of golf, 3 swimming pools and spas, a large fitness center, and a huge club house with a library, game rooms, crafts, a computer room, theater, restaurant, all sorts of clubs, activities, choral group, and lessons for almost anything you want to learn.  We were sold!  We bought a 4 year old 2 bedroom, 2 bath home, (Yes, one is a guest room) It’s small, but just what we wanted and in our price range.  Bob got a golf cart, and Carolyn got all new furniture.  We are both very happy about our decision.

As we drove past our old home in Medinah last week, I was surprised that it wasn’t the house or neighborhood, or even the Midwest we miss.  It’s all of the friends we will rarely see now, the Elmhurst

Ski Club (with 40 some years of friendships – some we already haven’t seen for years).  The CMSC, and other clubs Carolyn & I have been involved with, have given us memories that will last a life time.

All of you friends have no idea how or when you touch someone in your lives, but I know how all of you have touched ours.

I know I’ll miss skiing (so will Carolyn).  My message to all of you is that I want you to cherish the friends you have and keep on nurturing those friendships so that they grow and endure!

Love,

Carolyn and Bob
